This elite expression of the Manix 2 Lightweight combines the weight-saving benefits, full cutting performance and strength of the Ball Bearing Lock mechanism with the improved edge retention and corrosion resistance of the CPM-SPY27. After years of using the best materials that the world’s leading steel manufacturers could provide, Spyderco decided it was time to create their own. Working closely with Crucible Industries, they developed CPM-SPY27 – a particle metallurgy stainless steel containing a proprietary blend of alloys, including vanadium, molybdenum, niobium, nitrogen and cobalt. Enhanced with the reinforcing effects of cobalt and the state-of-the-art Crucible Particle Metallurgy process, this remarkable composition is produced exclusively for Spyderco and will be featured on select US-made models. Each knife made from this steel will also feature a distinctive cobalt blue handle color to emphasize its elite pedigree.

The Manix 2 Lightweight grip is injection molded from Cobalt Blue Glass Fiber Reinforced Copolymer (FRCP) and features Spyderco’s signature Bi-Directional Texturing pattern to ensure a secure grip in all environmental conditions. The lightweight FRCP handle has reduced the overall weight of the knife to just 3 ounces – 42 percent lighter than the Manix 2 with G10 handle. The double-sided wire clip allows for comfortable left or right-hand wear, and the large lanyard hole allows for easy attachment of charms and lanyards.

Connecting the blade and handle is Spyderco’s patented Ball Bearing Lock mechanism. This high-strength lock consists of a ball bearing embedded in a durable polymer “cage”. When the blade is open, a compression spring drives the cage forward to wedge the ball bearing between the ramp on the blade and the steel frame anchored between the handle halves. Pulling the ball bearing in the cage back releases the lock and the blade closes smoothly while keeping your fingers a safe distance away from the sharp edge.
