As a combination of a modern EDC and a refined gentleman’s knife, the Böker Plus Cataclyst is impressive across the board, including this 110-layer Damascus version. The sturdy blade opens via a flipper on a ball-bearing pivot and features a flat grind and a groove on both sides. It is held in the open position by the sophisticated Flipjoint mechanism and does not lock, but is instead securely retained in place by a detent ball. With appropriate pressure applied to the spine of the blade, the blade can be folded without releasing any locking device.
To ensure there is no doubt when using the Cataclyst Brown Damascus Flipjoint, we have explicitly obtained a certificate assessing the weapon classification of the knife with a ball-detent blade holder. The BKA (classification notice Z-524) shares our view that a blade holder using a detent ball does not constitute a locking device within the meaning of the weapons law: “The blade holder installed here, which is released by slight finger pressure on the back of the blade, meets the criteria of a one-handed securing device.”
Jimping in the thumb rest area and on the backspacer further enhances operational safety. The linear construction is fitted with a front handle scale made of three-dimensionally milled Micarta, finished in light brown. The right handle scale and the deep-carry pocket clip (tip-up/r), also three-dimensionally milled from solid material, have a satin finish. With a lanyard hole and a high-quality nylon storage pouch.
