The Vanguard model belongs to CobraTec's OTF knife lineup, using a double-action mechanism. This means the blade is not only deployed but also retracted using the sliding button, allowing full one-handed control without the need for manual closing. This system is typical of modern tactical knives in this category.

The knife's dominant feature is a blade approximately 8.5–9 cm long, most commonly in a tanto or drop point shape (depending on the variant). This profile offers a good compromise between piercing capability, tip strength, and versatile cutting performance.
