The Battle Cleaver is another evolution of the mid-tech Butcher design from Andre De Villiers that has undergone many changes during its existence. First, it was only a custom piece, then it became a mid-tech, then it was a Tac model before becoming what it is now… the Classic Butcher. This Battle Cleaver is very similar to the Classic Butcher in terms of size, feeling, weight…ie, everything but its blade shape. This one features a 4″ CPM-S35VN tactical cleaver style blade with a blood groove, the hanging hole typically found on cleavers, and a black Cerakoted two-tone finish. The handle is made from black Cerakoted titanium with a large square pattern milled in on each side to provide additional traction for your fingers.

The pivot point is what sets this knife, and all ADV blades, apart from the others. It has an inset Torx screw that fits inside the pivot, allowing you to tighten down the pivot while adjusting the centering or overall smoothness of the action. That action is very smooth to say the least. Jimping on the flipper tab is sharp and functional; really nothing was overlooked in this awesome design. Andre put in a large cutout relief to make closing the knife easier and has incorporated a replaceable lockbar insert that doubles as an overtravel arrestor. The milled titanium pocket clip on the Battle Cleaver allows for superior retention in thick pant pockets and incorporates a rolling ball design for an easier draw. This may not be your typical looking knife, but get it in your hand and you’ll definitely warm up to the design thanks to all the great features it has and the fact that the action is on par with even the best flipping designs in the industry.
