Detailed product description
Excalibur Silver Sword Marto MA752.1.
Excalibur is the best-known name of King Arthur's legendary sword, to which various extraordinary properties were attributed.
There are several theories about the origin of its name. One of the most widely accepted is that it comes from the Latin “EX Calce Liberatus”, “freed from the stone”. Others believe that Excalibur means "Cutting steel", referring to one of its many magical properties.
According to legend, when King Uther Pendragon died, Merlin created the sword (Excalibur) on the island of Avalon and drove it into a stone in London near a chapel.
The most widespread legend says that Arthur managed to pull it from the rock through an act of Merlin's magic. The sword was kept in a scabbard that prevented the king from losing blood when he carried it in battle. As he was dying, Arthur ordered his knight to throw the sword into the lake where Nimue, the Lady of the Lake, lived. When he throws it, a hand clothed in white silk catches it and takes it into the depths.
It is said that the sword rests with the king in Avalon, awaiting his return.
