We are located in the beautiful mountains of Jacksonville, Alabama, home of Jacksonville State University.

As blacksmiths, we pride ourselves on our damascus, which has a variety of patterns using large air hammers and different blends of steel.

We manufacture a variety of Damascus Steel, Blades, Custom Damascus Knives or Scissors.

We can custom manufacture damask blanks or blanks to suit your needs.

Heat treatment:

Simply process the steel to a temperature where the magnet will not stick. Be very careful, it is a high carbon tool steel.

If not using the “eye” or magnet method, preheat the oven to 1550 degrees F. Allow the knife to reach oven temperature and then soak for two minutes.

Oil clogs immediately (10 grams of hydraulic oil). Dip the blade downwards.

Drawing:

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees, put the spatulas in the oven, then after 1 hour, turn off the oven and let the blade cool to room temperature, pull again if you want a double stroke.
ETCHING PROCESS:

USE EXTREME CAUTION WHEN USING ACID

Degrease with acetone, mix ferric chloride (Etchant brand from radio shack) with distilled white vinegar, mix 60% ferric chloride and 40% white vinegar. Place the knife in a plastic container containing the acid mixture, let it sit for a few minutes and remove it to see the pattern (now it’s best to see how the pattern looks on the blade), rinse the blade with warm water and place it back in the acid until the leaf doesn’t reach the depth you want, it may take a few minutes to get the depth and contrast you want (you may or may not rub the oxidation away with your finger. It all depends on the contrast you get and the effect you’re trying to achieve.), but on the last dip, remove the blade from acid and allow the black oxidation to remain on the blade rinse in warm water and rinse in iodine to neutralize the acid (Windex will also work quickly) blow dry or other means that will allow the black oxidation to set and after it is completely dry spray with with water-40, three flowing, colorless or clear colors.
