Detailed product description

Spyderco Paramilitary 2 Salt – Black G10, CPM-MagnaCut, model C81GMCBKP2

“Ultimate” is a strong word. The basis for using it is also highly subjective — and rightly so. Still, when it comes to describing the exceptional synthesis of design, reputation, and materials found in the Paramilitary 2 Salt, the word “ultimate” fits perfectly.

The Paramilitary 2 design traces its roots to the original first-generation model and, even further back, to the famous Spyderco Military Model. Designed by Spyderco co-founder Sal Glesser and introduced in 1996, the Military represented Sal’s vision of the ideal cutting tool for the armed forces. Thanks to its qualities, it quickly won over other users as well and became one of the most iconic folding knife designs in the world.

In 2004, Spyderco launched the first-generation Paramilitary, offering the same reliability and performance as the Military, but in a more compact, easier-to-carry format. The Paramilitary also introduced the innovative Compression Lock — a mechanically distinct lock that is significantly stronger than a classic LinerLock. Positioned on the spine of the handle, it allows easy one-handed closing without putting your fingers at risk. The first version was produced with black G10 scales and a choice of PlainEdge or SpyderEdge blades in CPM S30V steel. The model became an instant hit and inspired a number of variants, including black-coated blades, G10 handles with digital camouflage, and limited Sprint Run editions.

As part of Spyderco’s Constant Quality Improvement (C.Q.I.) philosophy, the company raised the bar again in 2010 with the improved Paramilitary 2. The second generation brought an upgraded lock, improved ergonomics, recessed screws, and a four-position clip for versatile carry. These changes cemented the Paramilitary 2 as one of Spyderco’s best-selling and most popular models.

As its popularity grew, more variants followed with different steels, finishes, and colors. Limited editions also appeared with unique blade shapes, grinds, and special Emerson Opening Features.

After many versions, the Paramilitary 2 rose to become one of the icons of the knife world. For many users, it represents the pinnacle of folding EDC knife design and comes close to perfection. What could make it even better? How about revolutionary top-tier steel, ultra-corrosion-resistant metal components, and a unique textured handle that boosts grip security in wet conditions? That makes it a member of Spyderco’s elite Salt Series.

Salt features

Although MagnaCut’s corrosion resistance does not quite reach the level of Spyderco’s ultra-corrosion-resistant LC200N or H-2 steels, internal testing confirmed that it is suitable for inclusion in the Salt Series. As a result, MagnaCut has become the current trend in knives intended for aquatic environments.

Logically, choosing MagnaCut for the popular Paramilitary 2 platform was an easy decision. But making this knife part of the Salt Series meant much more than simply using a MagnaCut blade. Spyderco had to prevent galvanic corrosion caused by contact between different metals in the presence of a conductive solution. This required thorough research and careful material selection for the knife’s other metal components.

To visually distinguish the Paramilitary 2 Salt and improve grip security in wet conditions, the handle features a CNC-machined “Caribbean Bi-Directional Texture” pattern inspired by the successful Caribbean Salt models. This pattern consists of curved grooves radiating from the center of the handle, complemented by a raised ridge running the full length. It also serves as a “ramp” for the clip, ensuring smooth engagement regardless of the knife’s position in the pocket. The result is a visually striking pattern with excellent traction even in demanding conditions.

The first released version of the Paramilitary 2 Salt is all black, ideal for tactical use where discretion matters. The full-flat-ground blade is made from MagnaCut steel with a black DLC coating and a PlainEdge cutting edge. The metal handle components are made from highly corrosion-resistant materials compatible with one another, most with a black finish matching the blade. Other features remain the same as on the standard Paramilitary 2 — including skeletonized stainless steel liners, the strong Compression Lock, a large lanyard hole, a versatile four-position clip, and the traditional round opening hole for fast, convenient opening.

So yes, “ultimate” really does apply — especially when you combine the legendary Paramilitary 2 with exceptional MagnaCut steel and enhanced handle texturing. And who knows what the future will bring?
